Rogue cops

The failed abduction of an indian national by alleged members of the quezon city police have raised eyebrows on the hierarchy of the PNP. It is also lamentable - the fact that one of their fellow policeman from Pasay who responded on the scene have been shot repeatedly in order to seal off their nefarious activity. Sr. Inspector Apolinario should not only be commended but promoted as well being the sole witness in the alleged crime. Policemen from quezon city had once hit the headline regarding the carnapping fiasco that left a number of innocent civilians dead a year ago. Punishment ranges from administrative sanctions, deregulation of duties but seldom expulsion from the service. How can someone expect their commitment to the service if every now and then we see rogue cops being sought for their undisciplinary acts and crimes to the people?

Vicious cycle

It is considered as a poor man's game, yet it catapulted jueteng lords and even politicians into the upper echelons of the society. This numbers game cannot be eradicated unless it starts first from us. Do not bet! Recently, it was demonstrated on TV how an "illegal" result can easily be conducted. In this case, a poor man's chance to win is no longer achieved thereby forcing himself to the vicious cycle of poverty. Let us remind ourselves that a single cent we intend to donate will not only pass on the hands of these hungry crocodiles but can also be used as a dirty money to influence voters in order to win in an election .

Major, major problem!

One major setback in the tourism sector is the recent travel ban to the Philippines. The "failed" hostage drama gave repercussions on different aspects, giving the county a bad image in the international community. Perhaps, this tragic incident reminds officials in the government that " ang isang maliit na bagay, ay siya ang nakakapuwing".

The 3rd Kannawidan Festival which begun last January 28 with a procession along the streets of Vigan became another success. Aside from the traditional presentations, the beauty pageant (Miss Saniata) became the focal point of the event as 24 candidates queued up to participate in this yearly celebration.

The 2010 National and Local elections is fast approaching and candidates are queuing now for nominations to their respective political parties until 12 midnight of December 01, 2009 which is the deadline. Politics is addition! these words were the famous battlecry of some "trapos" who are now being heard randomly be in print or broadcast media. This exercise would give a shot in the arm to the COMELEC for institutionalizing a national election makeover for the first time in the history of our country. On the other side, technologically wise - would be hackers are now studying the "source code" of Smartmatic for future use in the next elections to come. Which is more reliable, manual or electronic?

Sultry summer is fast approaching...

In the long stretch of shoreline we've been famous for, tourists as well as local visitors will surely visit these restful areas. It also reminds us of visita iglesia, an adoration to the different historical sites and churches in the ilocandia not to mention the centuries old tradition of procesion del santo entiero here in Vigan City.
